SINGAPORE — The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said that contrary to a report in The Straits Times today (Aug 2), they have not proposed an alliance with fellow Opposition party Singapore First (SingFirst) in the Upcoming General Election.
“We are considering the possibility of offering to send a joint team with SingFirst to Tanjong Pagar in the interest of Opposition unity, but we have not proposed an ‘alliance’,” said DPP Secretary-General Benjamin Pwee in a statement.
Mr Pwee also called the Straits Times report “inaccurate”.
Earlier yesterday, SingFirst said that it has identified a slate of candidates to contest Tanjong Pagar GRC in the next election, but stopped short of naming them.
Members of various Opposition parties had also gathered on Saturday evening at the home of SingFirst secretary-general Tan Jee Say for an informal discussion on how they could “work together” in the upcoming General Election. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
