SINGAPORE — Graduates from three local universities last year have managed to secure jobs and saw an increase in salaries as compared to 2013.
This was revealed by a Joint Graduate Employment Survey (GES) 2014 conducted by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Singapore Management University (SMU).
A total of 10,126 out of 13,656 full-time fresh graduates from the three universities participated in the survey.
As of Nov 1 last year, the overall employment rate among economically active graduates — those who are working and those who are available for work — was 89.1 per cent.
Out of these graduates, 82.7 per cent were employed in full-time permanent jobs within six months of completing their final examinations.
The overall and full-time permanent employment rates of these graduates were similar to the employment rates achieved in 2013.
Last year, the mean gross monthly salary among fresh graduates employed in full-time permanent employment was S$3,333 as compared to S$3,229 in 2013.
Correspondingly, the median gross monthly salary among fresh graduates employed in full-time permanent employment was S$3,200 as compared to S$3,050 in 2013. Meanwhile, the survey also looked at the follow-up graduates from the three universities. A total of 638 out of 883 graduates from the universities took part in a follow-up survey.
These are graduates from Architecture Class of 2011 who took the survey after they had completed their practical training.
The graduates include those from the Biomedical Science (Traditional Chinese Medicine), Law, Medicine and Pharmacy courses after completing their one-year practical law course, pupilage or housemanship upon completing their studies in 2013.
Of the economically-active follow-up graduates, the overall employment rate was 98.9 per cent with 97.7 per cent of these graduates following full-time permanent jobs.
The overall and full-time permanent employment rates were similar to the employment rates achieved by graduates in 2013.
For this group of graduates, the mean gross monthly salary for those employed in full-time permanent employment was S$4,751 as compared to S$4,575 in 2013. Meanwhile, the median gross monthly salary among follow-up graduates employed in full-time permanent employment was S$4,800 compared to S$4,500 in 2013.
