SINGAPORE — The Primary 1 registration exercise for next year’s intake will start on July 2 and end on Aug 27.
Children born between Jan 2, 2009, and Jan 1, 2010, (with both dates inclusive) have to be registered during the exercise for admission to primary school next January, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) yesterday.
Three new schools — Oasis Primary, Punggol Cove Primary and Waterway Primary — will be taking in pupils from next year, and will be open for Primary 1 registration.
“The cohort size for 2016 is similar to that of 2015. There will be sufficient school places for all eligible P1 students on a regional and nationwide basis,” said the MOE.
All primary schools will open from 8am to 11am and from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on weekdays during the registration period. Under Phase 1, parents can submit the registration form and relevant documents through an older sibling, who will receive the form from the school.
From Phase 2A(1) to Phase 3, a parent or person authorised by the parent in writing can submit the form and relevant documents at the school of choice. Each child should be registered at only one school at any time.
Alternatively, parents can register their children online via the Primary One Internet System, which is accessible 24 hours a day during Phase 2C which runs from 9am on July 28 to 4.30pm on July 30, and Phase 2C Supplementary, which runs from 9am on Aug 10 to 4.30pm on Aug 12.
Children who are not Singapore citizens or permanent residents may apply to a school with vacancies in Phase 3.
The MOE says any registrant found to have provided false information during the exercise would be referred to the police for investigation.
“A child who is successfully registered at a school based on false information given will be transferred to another school with available vacancies after all eligible children have been registered,” it added.
More information on the list of primary schools and vacancies available as well as a list of registration centres for new schools can be found at the P1 registration website (http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration).
Under the Compulsory Education Act, Singapore citizens born after Jan 1, 1996 and residing in Singapore are required to attend national primary schools.
