SINGAPORE: Peach Garden’s Thomson Plaza branch has been given the green light to resume operations after a month of suspension following dozens of gastroenteritis cases.

The suspension was lifted on Monday (May 20) after the restaurant complied with food safety measures, said the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Fifty-eight people fell ill after consuming food prepared by the restaurant between Apr 17 and Apr 21, the authorities said on Tuesday.

This is an increase from the earlier figure of 43 people who had consumed food prepared by the restaurant between Apr 17 and 18.

Two were hospitalised and have been discharged.

RESTAURANT COMPLIED WITH REQUIRED MEASURES

The authorities said during the suspension period, Peach Garden Thomson Plaza complied with measures such as the disposal of all ready-to-eat food, thawed food and perishable food items.

The restaurant also cleaned and sanitised its premises, including equipment and utensils, and disinfected food preparation surfaces, tables, and floors.

Food handlers also re-attended and passed the Food Safety Course Level 1, while food hygiene officers re-attended and passed the Food Safety Course Level 3.

Peach Garden's Thomson Plaza branch has also taken additional steps, such as replacing its ice machine, steamer, and light cover, said SFA and MOH.

“Following the lifting of suspension, SFA will continue to place Peach Garden under close surveillance to ensure it adheres to food safety requirements,” the authorities added.

SFA is considering the findings from its investigations and will take enforcement action if Peach Garden is found to have violated the Environmental Public Health Regulations.

If found guilty, offenders are liable to a fine not exceeding S$2,000 (US$1,480).

“Food safety is a joint responsibility, and SFA would like to remind food operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times,” said the authorities.
