SINGAPORE — Ang Mo Kio and Sengkang West residents can expect to see upgrades to their estate, swimming complex, gardens and community clubs, as well as improved connectivity with a new cycling town and MRT station over the next five years.

These were revealed in the Ang Mo Kio Town Council’s Master Plan book, Ang Mo Kio Sengkang West 2.0, which was launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today (Aug 30).

The book comes days before Nomination Day on Tuesday, and with Singaporeans due to head to the polls on Sept 11.

Mr Lee, who is also the Grassroots Advisor to Ang Mo Kio GRC, noted that it has been five years since they last launched the last masterplan book.

Other than the existing facilities that residents currently enjoy, such as the upgraded playground and fitness corners, Mr Lee said they have used the void deck to install indoor gyms for residents to exercise regardless of the weather.

He added that there will also be newly-constructed link ways, barrier-free access points and an increase in the drop-off porches to provide more convenience to residents, especially the wheelchair-bound residents.

Another 17 blocks have also been selected to undergo the Lift Upgrading Programmes, he said.

Ang Mo Kio will also become a cycling town with upcoming park connectors and Ang Mo Kio Central will also have an upgraded polyclinic, he added.

In addition, there will be two new MRT stations, Mayflower and Lentor stations.

The Teck Ghee estate will also undergo a S$38.3 million revamp to transform it into Singapore’s second “green” neighborhood, added Mr Lee.

With the upcoming polls, Mr Lee noted that the next two weeks will get a little busy.

“But I think it is okay. I’ve done this many times before, I think we’ve done our homework, we’ve done our preparations and we look forward to your support for us so that we can work together and continue to make our town, our neighbourhood, our city, our country better year by year for all of us,” he said.

Mr Lee added: “And then we’ll have reason to celebrate National Days and anniversaries happily for many years to come.”
