PM Lee tests positive for Covid-19 for first time, 'generally feeling okay'
SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has tested positive for Covid-19 for the first time.
In a Facebook post on Monday (May 22), Mr Lee, 71, shared a photo of a positive antigen rapid test that he said he took on the same morning.
He said that the positive test came after his recent work trips.
He was on an official visit to South Africa from May 14 to 16, and Kenya from May 17 to 19. He also attended the 42nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia from May 10 to 11.
“I am generally feeling okay but my doctors have advised me to self-isolate until I am asymptomatic," he wrote.
“They have also prescribed me Paxlovid, an antiviral medication, because of my age.”
Paxlovid is an oral medicine used to treat mild to moderate Covid-19 in adults.
Mr Lee added that his most recent Covid-19 vaccine booster was in November.
“Please continue to keep your vaccinations up-to-date, as it reduces the risk of severe illness. As Covid-19 remains endemic in Singapore, we must continue to stay safe and healthy,” he said.
