Power disruption forces closure of some Parkland Green shops: Tenants
SINGAPORE — Intermittent power supply has forced some Parkland Green tenants to shut today (Feb 8), with at least one shop at the development in East Coast Park chalking up losses.
The extent of the power disruption, as well as when it began, is unclear. A 38-year-old business development manager at one of the stores who declined to be named, said the power supply has been disrupted since 4.30am on Saturday, while another tenant said problems began on Friday. The 28-year-old manager at a cafe, who also requested to be unnamed, said that power was "down for a while" on Friday.
Six of the 11 tenants that operate in the recreational space, which is managed by the National Parks Board (NParks), have been affected by the disruption, said the business development manager. She said her shop, which has been closed since Saturday, has suffered "five-digit" losses in foregone sales, and several thousands in inventory losses, because its perishables had gone bad.
As for the cafe, it remained open on Friday and Saturday, but cut short its operating hours yesterday, shutting at 2pm instead of the usual 10pm, because of the intermittent power supply, said the 28-year-old manager.
It did not suffer inventory losses, however, as its perishables had been transferred to other outlets, the manager added.
Both businesses said NParks has tried to fix the problem, but it has not been resolved.
A notice at the entrance of bicycle retailer Pro Cycle said the shop would be closed from today till Thursday because of the power disruption. The shop would resume operations on Friday, the notice read.
When contacted by TODAY, a Singapore Power spokesperson said the electricity network for the area was functioning normally.
