SINGAPORE — A Chinese national who worked as a croupier at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) casino, and his 65-year-old Singaporean accomplice, were charged at the State Courts today (July 15) with cheating at play.

Zhang Zhijiu, 40, had allegedly been cheating the casino by colluding with Chua Lai Huat, a patron, at the gaming table yesterday, in order to gain advantage in a game of three card poker.

At 5.49am, Zhang revealed the value of the playing card by exposing the last card of the dealer's deck at a certain angle to Chua.

On the same day, police officers arrested both men after being alerted by the casino operator. Casino chips worth S$6,000, as well as other items believed to be used by the suspects to facilitate their crime, were seized.

Both men are also believed to be involved in a series of similar cases.

They will be remanded for a week pending further investigations, and will be back in court on July 22.

If convicted, both men face up to seven years' jail or a fine of up to S$150,000 each or both.
