SINGAPORE —  The first lunchtime rally of the 2015 general election was held by the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) today (Sept 7) at the promenade area outside UOB Plaza in Raffles Place.

Among the speakers were Dr Chee Soon Juan and Dr Paul Tambyah, both of whom are standing in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC against the People’s Action Party (PAP).

In his speech, Dr Tambyah commended Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, calling him “probably the most brilliant of our current ministers”. He added that many in the Opposition think that Mr Shanmugaratnam “would make a fine Prime Minister”.

He added: “Many of us in the alternative parties hope that one day DPM Tharman will have a falling out with the Prime Minister, and will come out to lead a grand coalition of opposition parties – Pakatan Rakyat Singapura!”
