SINGAPORE — A 31-year-old woman charged with murdering her adoptive father at their home in Sengkang in November will be remanded for another three weeks for psychiatric assessment.

This is the second time Tan Qiu Yan's remand has been extended.

Tan appeared in court via video link on Friday (Dec 23) and nodded when the court interpreter translated the remand extension to her in Mandarin.

Tan is accused of killing her adoptive father Tan Ah Bang, 67, at a 15th-floor flat at Block 190A Rivervale Drive sometime between 8pm on Nov 3 and 5.25am on Nov 4.

Police officers responded to a call at around 5.30am on Nov 4 and found him lying motionless with multiple wounds inside the flat.

He was later pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene and the younger Tan was arrested.

She has been held in remand since Nov 11 for psychiatric observation.

On Dec 2, her remand was extended for three weeks, also for psychiatric assessment.

She will return to court on Jan 13, 2023.

If found guilty of murder, she could face the death penalty.
