SINGAPORE — Selected Singapore Airlines (SIA) customers in Economy Class can now bid for better seats in Premium Economy.

These passengers will receive an email invitation to bid for a seat upgrade seven days before their flights are due to depart. Each flight will have an assigned minimum and maximum bid value, and passengers can change their bid amount up to 50 hours before their flights.

Successful bidders will receive an email notification any time prior to 40 hours before departure, said the airline on its website.

“This functionality will be gradually introduced across the network, and provide customers another option to upgrade their class of travel, and enjoy greater levels of comfort when they fly,” said SIA in its email.

SIA said the invites are issued at its “sole discretion based on certain criteria and combination of factors, which are dynamic”.

It added that redemption booking confirmations through the KrisFlyer programme will receive priority over upgrade bids through mySQupgrade.

Several airlines currently offer a similar scheme. They include Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Qantas, Lufthansa and Etihad Airways.
