Singapore beats global average for IB score

SINGAPORE — Singapore students scored an average of 36.43 points for the International Baccalaureate (IB) exams last year, beating the global average of 29.94 points.
The IB released its November 2014 results today (Jan 5). Asia Pacific had an average diploma score of 34.41 points out of a maximum of 45 points for this session.
1, 072 students in Singapore took the November examinations. Of this batch, 97.32 per cent passed.
Hwa Chong International School (HCIS) had four students attaining 44 points out of a perfect score of 45, with 98.9 per cent of the cohort awarded the IB diploma. The School of the Arts (SOTA) achieved a diploma pass rate of 100 per cent for the third year running, where their students scored 38.89 points on average.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate November 2014 graduates. I commend them on their dedication and drive in accomplishing this hard-earned achievement,” said Dr Siva Kumari, IB Director General. “Since universities continue to value the diploma graduate, we look forward to seeing more students in the Diploma programme. We know the graduates are well conditioned in critical thinking, researching and deep knowledge that prepares them to thrive in the universities they attend.”
