S$470,000 worth of drugs, including 2.6kg of cannabis, seized during raids

SINGAPORE: Three people were arrested on Monday (Jan 29) for suspected drug trafficking offences, with an estimated S$470,000 (US$350,000) worth of drugs seized during the raids.

The haul comprised about 2,602g of cannabis, 346 tablets and 498g of Ecstasy, 842g of Ice, 46g of ketamine, 11g of cocaine, 160 Erimin-5 tablets, 107 lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) stamps and five bottles of liquid suspected to contain gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

The two men and one woman were arrested during two separate operations, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a news release on Wednesday.

CNB officers intercepted and arrested a car driver, a 35-year-old Singaporean man, along Havelock Road in the late afternoon on Monday.

They recovered about 955g of cannabis, 166g of Ecstasy, 138g of Ice, 24g of ketamine, 160 Erimin-5 tablets, 107 LSD stamps and five bottles of liquid suspected to contain GHB from his vehicle.

The haul of drugs recovered from the car is worth about $118,000, said CNB.

The same afternoon, CNB officers raided a residential unit near Bedok Reservoir Road and arrested a 35-year-old Singaporean man and a 23-year-old Singaporean woman.

They recovered about 1,647g of cannabis, 704g of Ice, 346 tablets and 332g of Ecstasy, 22g of ketamine and 11g of cocaine from the unit.

The drugs recovered from within the unit are estimated to be worth about $352,000, said CNB.

The amount of cannabis and Ice seized can feed the addiction of about 850 abusers for a week, CNB added.

Investigations into the drug activities of the arrested suspects are ongoing.

Trafficking or offering to traffic a controlled drug is an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act. 

Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.
