Singapore records 6 imported Covid-19 cases; no new community infections for first time since April 25
Singapore’s coronavirus case count stands at 62,684 as of July 10, 2021.
SINGAPORE — Singapore on Saturday (July 10) recorded six new cases of Covid-19, all of which were imported.
There was no locally transmitted infection for the first time since April 25.
All the imported cases had been isolated on arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its nightly coronavirus update.
Three cases were detected on arrival and the other three developed the disease while in isolation.
Singapore’s coronavirus case count is now 62,684.
As of Saturday, there remained 22 active Covid-19 clusters, with case numbers ranging between three and 94.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has dropped to 17 this past week, from 37 in the week before.
The number of community cases with no known links to earlier infections has, however, climbed to nine in the past week, from one in the week before.
“The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 1.1 and 1.3, respectively,” MOH said.
HOSPITALISED PATIENTS
There are 76 Covid-19 patients who are in hospital.
Of these, seven need supplemental oxygen. Another two are in critical condition under intensive care.
Both patients under intensive care are above 60 years old. One of them is not vaccinated against the coronavirus, while the other is partially vaccinated.
Six of the patients who need oxygen aid are unvaccinated and one is partially vaccinated.
Five of the seven are older than 60, while two are between the ages of 40 and 60.
“There is continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected,” MOH said.
Over the last 28 days, the ministry said that 24 local cases needed oxygen aid, were admitted to the intensive care unit or died from the disease.
Among these cases, 20 were unvaccinated, four partially vaccinated and none was fully vaccinated.
VACCINATIONS
Some 6.16 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been given to about 3.9 million people as of Friday, the ministry said.
About 2.27 million people have received their second dose and completed the full vaccination regimen.
TESTING FOR MALL WORKERS
In a separate statement on Saturday, MOH said that it had on July 2 concluded Covid-19 testing for staff members and cleaners working at HarbourFront Centre and VivoCity.
In all, 6,364 employees and cleaners at the shopping complexes were tested and all came back negative for Covid-19.
Staff who worked at VivoCity and HarbourFront Centre's retail mall between June 13 and 28 were required to undergo compulsory testing.
A separate testing operation for cleaning crew at Velocity@Novena Square mall concluded on June 30.
The 39 crew members tested were all found to be negative for the coronavirus.
