SINGAPORE — A 33-year-old Singaporean man was charged in Court today (Sept 30) for three counts of cheating at seventh lunar month celebration dinners.
On Aug 15, Wang Weisen pretended to be a new tenant at Empire Technocentre (ET) at 30 Kaki Bukit Road 3, and swindled Mr Liou Jian Ping into letting him take part in a dinner organised by ET.
During the dinner, he made a bid of S$14,325, for which he received a bottle of Martell Cordon Blue, a “Prosperity Urn”, 40 Singapore Sweep tickets and a container of donations. These were worth S$2,100 collectively. Wang made away with the items without paying the bid price.
Two days later, he masqueraded as a member of the Bedok Industrial Park (E) Association and made a bid of S$21,000 at the association’s dinner. The organiser, Mr Koh Kar Chuan, was tricked into giving him a bottle of Martell Cordon Blue worth S$980, a “Prosperity Urn” of unknown value and a donation bucket filled with S$3,500.
During a third dinner on Aug 22, Wang posed as the new owner of a unit at Woodlands East Industrial Estate. Using the same ruse, he deceived Mr Lim Tiong Poon into believing that he was eligible to take part in a dinner at the industrial estate. He made a bid of S$59,532 and received S$5,990 worth of items, including at least seven bottles of Martell Cordon Blue, a Helo Kitty mahjong set and 70 Singapore Sweep tickets.
For cheating and dishonestly inducing a person to deliver any property to him, Wang could be jailed up to 10 years and fined.
