An exchange student from the Singapore Management University (SMU) was diagnosed with Covid-19 on March 14.
SINGAPORE — An exchange student from the Singapore Management University (SMU) has been diagnosed with Covid-19, the university’s crisis management group said in an email to students on Monday (March 16).
In the email seen by TODAY, the university said that the student from Spain was infected with the coronavirus on March 14 after he reported an onset of symptoms the day before.
It added that the student was overseas from March 8 to 13 and arrived in Singapore the next morning. The last time he was at the SMU campus was on March 6.
“He underwent a swab test upon arrival at Changi Airport and subsequently isolated himself in his flat, as advised, while waiting for results,” the email read, adding that the student was later conveyed to the National Centre for Infectious Disease and is in stable condition.
The university has also identified the student’s three flatmates whom he had brief interactions with upon his return.
“His flatmates are currently on home quarantine and will be provided with the necessary assistance during this period,” it said.
The Ministry of Health on Sunday confirmed 14 new cases of Covid-19 in Singapore, bringing the tally to 226.
Of the 14 new cases, nine were imported from overseas, two were from the Safra Jurong private dinner cluster while the remaining three were linked to previous cases.
To date, a total of 105 patients have fully recovered from the coronavirus infection and have been discharged.
