SINGAPORE — In a bid to stave off competition from rival telcos Singtel and Circles.Life, StarHub has unveiled a slew of new offerings for mobile phone users that include no-contract options and the upsizing of data plans.
To differentiate its plans from the other telcos, StarHub is offering free unlimited local data — meaning a user has to be in Singapore — on weekends, from 12am on Saturdays to 11.59pm on Sundays.
On weekdays, StarHub customers can choose from data plans offering 3GB, 4GB, 5GB, 8GB and 15GB, the telco said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 30).
These five data plans are offered without contract (SIM-only), or with a two-year plan that comes with a subsided mobile device.
Customers on the 3GB, 4GB, 5GB, 8GB and 15GB plans will be able to add 5GB, 10GB, 15GB and 20GB respectively for an extra monthly fee of $10, under StarHub's DataJump option.
Digital mobile telco Circles.Life was the first to offer an extra 20GB worth of data for S$20 for new and existing subscribers in March this year, while Singtel followed suit a few months later by offering an extra 25GB for S$26.75 for its SIM-only plans.
To cater to new phones that are capable of LTE download speeds of up to 1Gbps, StarHub has also been upgrading its network to better cover high-traffic locations, such as transport hubs and shopping belts.
StarHub's new plans will be available from Thursday.
