SINGAPORE The Chief of Defence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, General Sommai Kaotira, has made an introductory visit to Singapore.

In a press release today (Feb 16), Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) said that Gen Sommai, who is here from Feb 15 to 17, called on Singapore's Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow 2016 on Tuesday.

The Singapore  Airshow 2016 is being held at the Changi Exhibition Centre.

Yesterday, Gen Sommai also met Singapore's Chief of Defence Force Major-General Perry Lim, and inspected a Guard of Honour at MINDEF.

Said MINDEF: "Gen Sommai’s visit underscores the close and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Thailand."

It added that both armed forces "interact regularly through high-level visits, courses, professional exchanges and exercises". One such exercise is the ongoing multilateral "Exercise Cobra Gold", which is being held in Thailand from Feb 9 to 19.

"Such interactions have deepened friendships and mutual understanding between personnel of both armed forces," said the Ministry. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
