Train service between Admiralty and Kranji hit with hour-long disruption

SINGAPORE — Due to a traction power fault, train service in both directions at four North-South Line stations — between Admiralty and Kranji — went down for more than an hour this evening (Jan 9).
At 5.47pm, SMRT first said on Twitter that train service between Woodlands and Kranji is down. SMRT subsequently said that service at Admiralty station also came down. Service was only restored by 6.57pm, with the bus and train operator saying that longer travel times were expected.
As the power fault hit, passengers aboard one train travelling in the direction of Marina South were safely detrained to Marsiling station, while free bus services were arranged for affected passengers between Kranji and Sembawang, SMRT said in a Facebook post. Train services along the other parts of the North-South Line were not affected, with trains turning around at Admiralty and Kranji, the bus and train operator added.
Additional SMRT staff was deployed as Crisis Support Teams to assist commuters at bus boarding points and with crowd management duty, and to provide travel advice, SMRT also said.
Free bus services have ceased by 7.50pm.
