SINGAPORE — Two more individuals, believed to be the victim’s ex-husband and daughter, may be implicated in the elderly abuse case at Lower Delta Road, which came to light after a video of Ms Kamisah Burel being hit was circulated on social media last year.
Darwinder Singh, the 39-year-old who was hauled to court in July last year for abetting his neighbour Khamis Abas and his daughter Siti Nur Redha Khamis in voluntarily causing hurt to Ms Kamisah, was on Wednesday (Dec 14) granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal on two charges of voluntarily causing hurt by means of an instrument to cause death and one charge of voluntarily causing hurt.
The prosecution made the application “in the interest of fairness” to Singh, while awaiting investigations into Khamis’ and Siti’s involvement to conclude. Accused persons granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal may still face the criminal charges later.
A stern warning is among the punishment being considered for Singh, Deputy Public Prosecutor Kelly Ho told the court on Wednesday.
So far, no other individuals have been charged in relation to this case.
The saga broke when a video clip was circulated on social media in mid-July last year purportedly showing Ms Kamisah being hit by a younger woman outside a flat, prompting investigations by the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
Singh was alleged to have abetted Mr Khamis in voluntarily causing hurt to Ms Kamisah by feeding her human faeces and urine in April last year. Another charge of abetting Ms Siti to commit a similar act was also pressed against him.
