SINGAPORE: Singapore marked 56 years of independence on Monday (Aug 9) with a ceremonial parade at the Float @ Marina Bay. About 600 participants from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Home Team were involved. They were joined virtually by 200 participants from uniformed youth groups and social and economic organisations.

The actual National Day Parade was postponed to Aug 21 after the scheduled end of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), which saw tightened restrictions amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in Singapore.

WATCH OUT FOR THE FLYPAST

The ceremonial parade included a state flag flypast with one CH-47 Chinook helicopter and two escorting AH-64 Apache Longbow helicopters.

After the parade, two Chinook helicopters carrying the state flag, each accompanied by a pair of AH-64 Apache helicopters, will fly across Singapore via two routes from the east and west of the island from about 9.50am to 10.35am. Look out for them if you're in the following neighbourhoods: East Coast, Changi, Pasir Ris, Bedok, Punggol, Khatib, West Coast, Jurong, Bukit Panjang, Bukit Timah and Choa Chu Kang.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force's F-15SG fighter aircraft will fly in a delta formation over Singapore’s heartlands as well from 9.50am. Expect to see them going by if you are in Toa Payoh, Ang Mo Kio, Yio Chu Kang, Yishun, Woodlands, Chua Chu Kang, Bukit Timah, Jurong, Clementi, Queenstown, Tiong Bahru, East Coast, Bedok, Tampines, Pasir Ris, Punggol, Hougang or Geylang.
