Woman, 27, arrested for allegedly extorting from man who procured her escort services, believed to be behind 3 other cases

SINGAPORE — A 27-year-old woman will be charged on Wednesday (March 8) after she was arrested for allegedly extorting a man who had procured her escort services, the police said on Tuesday (March 7).
She purportedly told the man that she would report him to the police if he failed to give her S$15,000, the police said in a statement, adding that the man had filed a report on Sunday night.
"Out of fear, the victim transferred a sum of S$1,800 via bank transfer first," the police added.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested her within 19 hours of the report being filed.
The woman is also believed to be involved in three other similar reported cases involving a total sum of at least S$19,000, the police said.
Anyone convicted of extortion will be jailed for between two years and seven years, with caning.
Women are exempted from judicial caning.
