SINGAPORE: Shanti Pereira set a new national record in the 200m heats at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Thursday (Aug 4) with a time of 23.46s, qualifying for the semi-finals of the event.

Pereira's time of 23.46s eclipsed her previous best and national record of 23.52s which was set in earlier this year at the 31st SEA Games. She won gold at that event.

Pereira finished fourth in her heats which was won by Favour Ofili with a time of 22.71s.

The top three from each heat automatically qualifies for the semi-finals which are set to take place on Friday.

Pereira was one of the next six athletes with the fastest times, which enabled her to advance to the semi-finals.

On Tuesday, Pereira also set a new national record in the 100m heats at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
