The simple makeup trick Korean-pop idols use to make their eyes look bigger

No plastic surgery required.

Ah, the power of makeup. If you’ve seen the extreme before-and-after makeup videos on YouTube, you’ll know exactly what we are talking about.

We already know contouring can make our faces appear smaller, while highlighting can make certain features more prominent. Want bigger-looking eyes? We’ve got just the Korean makeup trick for you.

First of all, get ready to trade your regular cat-eye flick for a puppy-eye look. Then, say hello to dwi teu im (which directly translates to "behind open") makeup — a technique favoured by K-pop idols, such as Lee Sung Kyung, IU and Suzy Bae, and frequently used by Korean makeup artists to fake bigger-looking eyes.

Laneige global makeup artist Cat Koh tells us how we can employ this magical technique.

“Use an easily blendable eyeliner or shadow to extend your lower lash line straight out, starting from the middle of your lash line. Doing so at the outer corner of your eyes makes them appear more open. This creates a natural shadow for bigger-looking eyes.”

Yup, it’s as easy as it sounds!
