Couple arrested after Empire State Building proposal stunt
A daredevil couple scaled the Empire State Building’s antenna in New York on Wednesday (Jul 1) in what appeared to be a marriage proposal.
Russians Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus balanced high above New York without safety tethers and unfurled a banner reading "when the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace", before climbing back down the steel structure.
On a wider ledge, one climber appeared to propose. After embracing, the couple celebrated with selfies, seemingly showing off an engagement ring.
Police officers climbed the antenna to intercept the pair. According to body camera footage, an off-camera voice replied, "We are engaged", before the couple were arrested.
