Infernos devastate forests as Europe's temperatures rise again
Wildfires have burned more than 19,000ha across Portugal, Spain, France and Greece, forcing thousands of people to evacuate as firefighters battle the blazes.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 40°C in parts of southern Europe, just days after a record-breaking heatwave that scientists linked to climate change.
The fires have disrupted daily life across the region. Tour de France officials have banned spectators from a stage through the Pyrenees. Major fires have also destroyed forests, vineyards and scrub land.
