Adjournment motion on moving towards a safer, plastics-lite Singapore
In parliament on Wednesday (Nov 5), MP Poh Li San proposed two “carrots” that the government could implement to reduce single-use plastics. First, incentivising the reuse of plastics and second, incentivising the ‘Bring Your Own’ (BYO) movement where customers bring their own reusable containers for food or drink. In reply, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Janil Puthucheary said the government has worked with partners to implement BYO ideas and there are grants available for similar community and business projects.
