Amy Khor on safety of workers transported on back of lorries
Over the years, government agencies have been working together with tripartite partners to continually review the transportation of workers on board lorries and to put in place practical measures that can help to reduce risk and enhance safety. Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor said this in parliament on Wednesday (Feb 26) in reply to an MP’s question. Addressing suggestions to ban the transportation of workers on the back of lorries, Ms Khor stated that it is not a practical solution for some micro, small and medium enterprises to transport a small number of workers separately from their equipment and goods. She also said that banning the use of lorries is not feasible due to the acute shortage of bus drivers, which is already experienced by the public transport, tour bus and school bus sectors.
