The aviation industry needs more sustainable fuel. Neste’s Jauhiainen explains what needs to be done

08:10 Min

One critical enabler to decarbonising the aircraft sector is the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said the greener fuel could contribute 65% of the reduction in emissions for the industry's 2050 net zero goals. However, production barely meets 1% of the total fuel needs today. Mr Sami Jauhiainen, vice president for renewable aviation at Neste, the world’s biggest producer of SAF, tells CNA’s Roland Lim what is needed for a massive ramp up.
