Baey Yam Keng on speed limit for bicycles on shared paths

09:33 Min

The speed limit of 25km/h for bicycles on shared paths is based on normal cycling speed but is also a maximum, not meant to be sustained over distance. Cyclists should slow down and give way to pedestrians, especially when approaching crowded places. The limit applies to shared paths which tend to be wider, allowing slow-moving users to keep to one side. It was derived by the Active Mobility Advisory Panel after extensive consultations with different users. Minister of State for Transport Baey Yam Keng said this in parliament on Wednesday (Oct 15). He was responding to an MP who had asked if the speed limit could be lowered for the safety of other path users.
