Baey Yam Keng on use of personal mobility aids
The ownership of personal mobility aids (PMAs) such as mobility scooters and motorised wheelchairs is not regulated as the authorities want to make them accessible to those who rely on them. However, the rules and restrictions governing PMAs will be reviewed as part of the workplan of the Active Mobility Advisory Panel which started its new term in January 2022. This will include setting pre-conditions for a person to use PMAs. Regulations such as a maximum speed limit are already in place to ensure that PMAs are safe for use on public paths. Regular enforcement is conducted across Singapore and members of the public can report incidents of errant usage to help the Land Transport Authority identify hotspots. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Baey Yam Keng said this in Parliament on Monday (Nov 28) in response to an MP’s questions.
