Free morning off-peak train rides in northeast Singapore from Dec 27
The Land Transport Authority is offering an off-peak travel incentive to reduce congestion in one of Singapore's fastest growing residential areas. Residents travelling from six stops on the North-East Line, or anywhere on the Sengkang and Punggol LRT, can get free rides if they travel before 7.30am or between 9am and 9.45am. The LTA said there are 40% fewer riders during these times as compared to peak periods. A reward system for off-peak bus journeys will also be aligned with the free rail timings. The year-long pilot starts on Dec 27. Nasyrah Rohim reports.
