Budget 2022 debate: Denise Phua on principles, business costs and resourcing charities

12:11 Min

Budget 2022 is a "clear articulation" of the principles of how Singapore "stewards' its resources. These principles are prudence, preparedness and inclusiveness, said MP Denise Phua. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 1), she also highlighted the costs of doing business, saying it is noteworthy to hear out the local enterprises which are struggling, despite doing their best. She asked if the Government would consider providing an energy rebate. She also urged the Government to play an active role in resourcing charities which fill important gaps in society. This can come in the form of grants to the partnering charities. The nexus for partnerships can also be strengthened, while fundraising requirements can be simplified to "help charities help themselves".
