Budget 2022 debate: Derrick Goh on supporting SMEs, tackling crime
Budget 2022 is "a clear step forward" as it shows the Government's commitment to building a fairer society where the better-off contribute more with a progressive and resilient tax system, said MP Derrick Goh in Parliament on Monday (Feb 28). However, he raised concerns on several fronts. First, he urged the Government to take a more active role in supporting local SMEs to undertake a digital and green transformation. This includes not just funding, but fundamentally changing mindsets. Second, Mr Goh called for more resources to be dedicated to tackling emerging crime trends, including scams and the use of ransomware. Another worrying issue he identified is drug abuse among youths.
