Budget 2022 debate: Gerald Giam on 7 pillars of resilience
Singapore has been largely spared the widespread rifts in other countries caused by measures to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic but it must act now to build a more resilient country, said MP Gerald Giam. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 1), he pointed out that the journey towards endemic COVID-19 is fraught with unexpected challenges. Building national resilience is a key joint effort to better prepare for any storm that comes. He highlighted seven pillars of resilience that must be continuously worked on. These are families, environment, infrastructure, companies, workforce, society and Government. He also highlighted concerns over the planned GST hike, stressing that it should be a "last resort" to increase revenue.
