Budget 2022 debate: Jessica Tan on investing for growth and the future
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore has continued to attract investments and these have created new jobs for which new capabilities need to be built, such as in digitalisation and sustainability know-how. MP Jessica Tan said these needs have become increasingly urgent. She pointed to manpower shortages in key sectors and roles, especially those involving technology. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Feb 28), Ms Tan also touched on ways to improve inclusion in the Budget. She suggested refining the use of property annual values to determine eligibility for support schemes and reconsidering the minimum income criterion of S$500 for the Workfare Income Supplement.
