Budget 2023 debate: Hany Soh on building a Singapore made for families

With some young couples feeling priced out of the resale HDB market due to high cash-over-valuation (COV), will measures be introduced to curb this amount or allow COV to be paid with housing loans or CPF monies? What were the considerations behind changing the Working Mother’s Child Relief from a percentage of earned income to a fixed sum and was the impact on middle-income mums taken into account? Are there plans to allow more flexible sharing of parental leave? These were some questions raised in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 22) by MP Hany Soh. Focusing her speech on building a Singapore made for families, she also suggested making homes future-ready for families as part of HDB’s Home Improvement Programme and ensuring more family-friendly amenities in public places, such as express lanes for seniors, people with mobility issues and families with young children.
