Rent growth in heritage districts tracks central retail areas, say authorities

03:12 Min

Authorities say rental increases in Kampong Glam, Little India and Chinatown have been moderate over the past two years, and broadly in line with other central retail areas, amid concerns over rising costs in historical districts. New support measures are planned, including a public register of heritage businesses by mid-2026, as well as marketing and consultancy support from March. But some business owners and precinct groups say recurring financial help, such as rental caps and subsidies, is still needed to stay viable. Nadirah Zaidi reports.
