Budget 2024 debate: Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap on support for low-income households

08:41 Min

Low-income earners are among the most vulnerable segments of Singapore's  workforce. Aside from their lower wages, job security is another concern for many of them, particularly those in professions with no specialised skills. MP Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap highlighted this concern in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 27), as well as the needs of low-income Singaporeans with foreign spouses who have not obtained permanent residency and face problems securing housing. He urged the Government to streamline a path towards naturalising foreign spouses in Singapore, including housing policies for such families. He also reiterated the need for Singapore to adopt the social protection framework developed by the International Labour Organization and to introduce an annual report to track the effectiveness and efficacy of policies to uplift society.
