Budget 2025 debate: Desmond Choo on supporting youths and young workers
In his parliamentary speech on Thursday (Feb 27), MP Desmond Choo focused on steps the government can take to support young Singaporeans in an increasingly competitive job market. He proposed two pathways towards a more hopeful future for young people, noting the need to not only have “more internships, but also better ones”. He suggested having a national internship standard to ensure structured learning, establish measurable learning outcomes for both hard and soft skills and promote best practices. He also proposed expanding the SkillsFuture mid-career training programme to workers below the age of 40.
