Budget 2025 debate: Ong Hua Han on making inclusivity second nature
Inclusion is often spoken about but the real goal should be to make it second nature, so that it no longer needs to be said. NMP Ong Hua Han made this point in parliament on Wednesday (Feb 26). He said arts and sports have a unique power to achieve this by bringing people together in ways that policies alone cannot. However, for this to happen, inclusion and representation in both fields have to go even further. Mr Ong made several suggestions. These included doing a survey to understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities when participating in the arts, having a dedicated access and ticketing hotline for them ahead of arts events, creating clear pathways for artists with disabilities to enter the mainstream, and doing more to ensure that people with disabilities can take part in sports in the community, especially at a recreational level.
