Budget 2025 debate: Usha Chandradas on SG Culture Pass and supporting Singapore's visual arts sector

16:16 Min

With the SG Culture Pass now being issued broadly to every Singaporean aged 18 and above, the government has sent a clear signal. The arts are essential to society just like any other basic necessity, said NMP Usha Chandradas. Speaking in Parliament on Friday (Feb 28), she highlighted several questions from the arts community here, including whether the Pass is transferrable and if unused credits can be donated to arts charities. She also wanted to know what provisions exist for those who are unable to use the SG Culture Pass due to severe health or mobility issues, and raised the issue of ticket wastage when attendees fail to show up. She also made some suggestions on initiatives to boost the visual arts sector, drawing inspiration from the suite of tax and financial incentives announced in the Budget to encourage corporate listings in Singapore.
