Budget 2026 debate: Ang Wei Neng on translating Singapore's fiscal strength into social strength
Singapore's fiscal strength should translate into social strength; only in this way can the surplus truly benefit Singaporeans, said MP Ang Wei Neng in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 24). Noting Singapore's budget surplus, he suggested that the government heavily subsidise AI and digital training for Singaporeans earning below the median wage, “to prevent the digital divide from becoming an income divide”. He touched on easing cost-of-living pressures through the distribution of additional CDC vouchers and also called for the government to consider allocating dedicated resources to establish a special needs foundation.
