Chan Chun Sing on mail-in voting for Singaporeans overseas

03:04 Min

The Elections Department of Singapore (ELD) will explore the possibility of allowing Singaporeans who are overseas to mail in their votes. With an electorate ageing rapidly, ELD is also looking at allowing voters residing at some nursing homes to cast their votes without having to go to the polling stations. Minister-in-charge of the Public Service Chan Chun Sing said this in reply to an MP's questions in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 3). He said any new arrangement will need to provide balance between greater accessibility and convenience and the integrity of the process and secrecy of the vote. He said ELD expects to engage the public and key stakeholders such as political parties, nursing homes and overseas Singaporeans on the possibility of piloting these initiatives some time in the middle of this year.
