Chan Chun Sing on staff attrition in the Public Service
The Public Service has seen an increase in attrition across the board during the COVID-19 pandemic. The resignation rate for the Management Executive Scheme - the largest scheme in the civil service - hit a 10-year high of 9.9 per cent in 2021 and the trend has gained momentum in the past six months. Some sectors like infocomm technology are even more badly affected, Minister-in-charge of the Public Service Chan Chun Sing told Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 15). He put this down to various factors including increased job pressures amid the pandemic, adding that the situation could worsen as the economy recovers and opportunities in the private sector increase. Mr Chan spoke about what was being done to improve public servants’ welfare and ensure that pay and benefits are competitive. He was answering an MP’s questions.
