Singles will be able to apply for public rental flats without first having to find a flatmate, under a pilot housing model by the Housing and Development Board. Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, who announced this in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4), said the new pilot will be an “additional option" under the existing Joint Singles Scheme, which allows single tenants to pair up and apply for a public rental flat. He said most single tenants are prepared to share the unit with a flatmate, and that this arrangement “enables companionship and mutual support”.
