Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Tan Kiat How on transforming the built environment sector

All new buildings will have to be 50 per cent more energy efficient than the 2005 baseline, starting with those submitted for planning approval from the fourth quarter of 2021. This was one aspect of the Green Building Masterplan shared by Minister of State for National Development Tan Kiat How in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4). He also detailed efforts to make the construction industry more productive. From April 2022, developers of large commercial, industrial and institutional projects will need to use more labour-efficient building methods to get their plans approved.
