Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 1: Josephine Teo on progress in Singapore’s Smart Nation journey
Singapore has made good progress on its Smart Nation journey, said Communications and Information Minister and Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity Josephine Teo in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 2). She said digitalisation is more than just moving from the physical to the virtual; multiple “touchpoints” for Government services have been unified to give users a better experience. Digitalisation has resulted in new business models and jobs, and a new wave of entrepreneurs ranging from home-based bakers to live streamers. It has also been instrumental to the nation’s COVID-19 response. Mrs Teo said moving ahead, Singapore must tackle challenges such as digital inclusion and cybersecurity, while capturing economic opportunities in the digital future and using technologies like 5G and autonomous systems to reimagine the way we live.
