Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 2: Vikram Nair on engagement with the US

01:15 Min

The United States has recently seemed preoccupied with internal affairs and its withdrawal from Afghanistan and rejection of military involvement in Ukraine suggest that its appetite for involvement in foreign conflict is "limited", said MP Vikram Nair. Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 3), he cautioned that there is a risk of potential aggressors acting in violation of international law if the US and other major world powers are perceived as being "less prepared to uphold law and order". He asked if there are steps that Singapore can take to continue to engage the US and keep it involved and interested in this region.
