Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 3: Louis Chua on enhancing CPF returns

02:37 Min

Many Singaporeans may wish to see their Central Provident Fund (CPF) returns do better than the interest rates offered by CPF, but are not confident or knowledgeable enough in the financial markets to buy into the CPF Investment Scheme (CPFIS), said MP Louis Chua. Speaking in Parliament on Friday (Mar 4), he said the world is moving towards exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as an investment product, but there are just six available under CPFIS. He asked if more passively managed ETFs can be made available. Mr Chua also requested for an update on the proposed CPF Lifetime Retirement Investment Scheme, which is meant to be for people who want to take bigger risks to grow their nest egg, but lack the time or know-how to do so.
